Asahi is a diptych by the Mexican collective Raga Ensemble, performed by three percussionists. The work explores light, sound and movement as a shared performative language and investigates the fragile boundary between intimacy and instability.
At Lux darkness becomes an active presence. Light not only illuminates the performers, but also reveals fragments of their movements. Gestures and rhythms thereby emerge sharply. Sound is created not only by what we hear, but also by the subtle way in which the bodies move and shift through the space.
Sound Movement continue this exploration from a different perspective. Voice, percussion and spoken Japanese text gradually transform an intimate setting into a space of latent tension. The work does not tell a story, but focuses on the moment when a seemingly stable equilibrium begins to shift. In this way, the vulnerability that lies hidden beneath familiar actions and the shared occupation of a space becomes visible.
In both parts, percussion is understood as a performative act. Sound arises from gesture, movement, voice and light, thereby blurring the boundaries between concert, choreography and theatre.
Asahi invites the audience into a space where listening and looking constantly interact. Instability is not seen here as a form of collapse, but as a moment in which change becomes possible.
